Serie A – Inter Milan overthrows Empoli (4-2) to temporarily regain the lead

No, Inter has not said its last word in this final sprint! On behalf of the thirty-sixth day of Serie A, the Lombards showed great mental resources to win at home against Empoli (4-2). Led 2-0 in the 28th minute of play, Simone Inzaghi’s men gave themselves the means to win this meeting thanks to a very strong offensive power symbolized by Lautaro Martinez, author of a double. With this new success, Inter temporarily takes the lead in the Italian championship and puts pressure on the shoulders of AC Milan, traveling to the lawn of Hellas Verona this Sunday. One thing is certain: it will be very difficult to prevent Inter from succeeding itself.

“The city of Milan can create a hegemony worthy of Juve”

Before starting this meeting against Empoli, Simone Inzaghi was able to rely on glowing statistics. Against the Tuscans, the Italian had won all of his seven Serie A encounters since his debut as a coach. But in fact, the former Lazio technician quickly realized that this eighth opus would not be a cakewalk, far from it. From the first minutes of the game, former Inter center-forward Andrea Pinamonti took advantage of a cross from Szymon Żurkowski to open the scoring with a clever deflection following a tackle (5th, 0-1). Touched in his pride, Inter was then more incisive but Denzel Dumfries saw Guglielmo Vicario start his festival (22nd). The icing on the cake for Empoli: Kristjan Asllani improved Riccardo Fiamozzi’s opening by doubling the bet in a very skilful way (28th, 0-2).

Vicario did what he could against Inter’s 37 shots

Back to the wall and mathematically second in Serie A two points behind AC Milan with one game more, Inter has nevertheless recovered in the direction of travel and has never doubted its ability to come back to score. Confusing from the left flank, Federico Di Marco pushed Simone Romagnoli to the fault with a but against his camp (40th, 1-2). Caught in the torpor of San Siro, Empoli conceded a second but just before the break following a recovery from Lautaro Martinez on an offensive from Hakan Çalhanoğlu (45th, 2-2). Asked from all sides, Vicario saved the day by diverting the recovery of Ivan Perisic (45th + 2) but the Milanese heat never left the enclosure again despite a fifteen-minute break.

During the second act, Inter continued to push and despite a slew of heroic saves from Vicario ahead of Perisic (50th), Di Marco (52nd), Çalhanoğlu (62nd), Dumfries (63rd) and Martinez (64th), the Toscan porter could not prevent his team from conceding the third but decisive to allow Inter to win at home. With a new powerful recovery, Martinez offered himself a double and sent the interist public into madness (66th, 3-2). In total, Inter will have struck… 37 times on goal, for ten shots on target! Vicario limited the breakage, but the nerazzurra tornado was too intense tonight. Entering the game, Edin Dzeko found the post (92nd) before serving Alexis Sanchez for the fourth but to end the suspense (94th, 4-2). Too strong, this Inter. But strong enough to finish Italian champion?
