The fears of the public authorities have proved to be correct. As soon as the final whistle of Saint-Étienne – Reims (1-2), match which was played behind closed doors due to the use of pyrotechnic devices during the reception of Monaco (1-4, April 23) , several hundred ultras came to gather in front of the main entrance to the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium on Saturday evening. Which played the exit of Roland Romeyer, chairman of the board of AS Saint-Étienne, other leaders and players from Saint-Etienne.
Initially kept at a distance by the police, the ultras, some of whom were hooded and masked, came to crack smoke bombs and other pyrotechnic devices en masse in front of the gates of the Cauldron, to the cries of “Directing broadcast! »shortly after midnight.
They were quickly dispersed, in particular thanks to the use of a water launcher requisitioned as a precaution. This punchy operation lasted a few minutes, causing fires to break out on the controlled cars parked inside the stadium.
