Google responded on Monday with a new campus in Zurich, in a building on the Europaallee, near the central station, in the presence of the President of the Confederation Ignazio Cassis. The American technology group now employs some 5,000 people in the city.
For the web giant, Zurich is the company’s largest research and development site outside the United States, said Patrick Warnkind, head of Google in Switzerland. Almost half of Google’s employees in Zurich work on the new, very good campus on the Europaallee.
Google opened its first site in Zurich in 2007, and the second five years ago. The “Zooglers”, as Google calls its Zurich collaborators, work on various products, including the Youtube video platform, the Google Maps online mapping service and artificial intelligence image recognition.
“Very good framework conditions”
“If Google has experienced such growth here so far, it is because Zurich offers very good framework conditions”, declared Urs Hölzler, “senior vice president engineering” of the American company in Zurich. By 2030, the Californian company wants to cover its energy needs with a completely CO2-free balance sheet, he added.
Present at the inauguration, the President of the Confederation Ignazio Cassis underlined that the presence of this new campus in Zurich is no coincidence, because the city has become a center of research and university and industrial innovation. The proximity of the ETHZ and the quality of life attract the best engineers every year, he noted.
Switzerland is one of the first countries to seek dialogue with technology companies such as Google, an advanced Ignazio Cassis. For him, they create the world of tomorrow and influence the way we live together, work and communicate.
