A new “Works with Apple Home” badge to replace “Works with HomeKit”

One of the problems with HomeKit, in addition to relative reliability, is that the name itself does not really resonate with the general public. This is first and foremost the name of the framework for developers, it’s a bit like the “Made for Apple Watch” badge is called “Made for WatchKit”.

Apple has probably realized that something was wrong and is preparing the transition from the badge to something more accessible and obvious: “Works with Apple Home”. This new label has appeared on the site dedicated to HomeKit developers, on which Apple explains that ” The “Works with Apple Home” badge can be used to visually communicate that your accessory is compatible with the Home app and Siri on Apple devices “.

The badge, unearthed by Aaron Pearce, actually looks new. It seems that he appeared on June 6, which is the first day of WWDC. However, everything is not completely fixed, since the old “Works with Apple HomeKit” badge is still in good place on the home page of the Made for iPhone program.

This change on the marketing side reflects the upcoming upheaval on the application side. The Home app is indeed getting a major overhaul with iOS 16 and macOS Ventura, with better organization of HomeKit accessories and scenes. Above all, Apple is working on compatibility with Matter, which is expected to be supported by the end of the year. This is a great opportunity to relaunch home automation within the Apple ecosystem.
